D<\/a>r<\/strong><\/span>ought and Equity in California: <\/strong><\/span><\/a>In this report, we examine three major impacts of the ongoing California drought. The first two, supply shortages and rising costs, affected people\u2019s access to safe, affordable water in their homes. We also investigated the impacts of the drought on salmon and, by extension, commercial and tribal fishermen reliant on salmon for income, food, and cultural traditions. We found that low-income households, people of color, and communities already burdened with environmental pollution suffered the most severe impacts. The good news is that there are solutions to these problems, some of which are already being implemented. We conclude with a set of policy recommendations to improve our ability to cope with drought and minimize its inequitable consequences in the future.<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

D<\/a>r<\/strong><\/span>ought and Equity in the Bay Area:<\/strong><\/span> \u201cThis report is the first examination of the drought\u2019s impacts on low-income communities in the Bay Area,\u201d says Colin Bailey, Executive Director of EJCW. \u201cContrary to the conventional wisdom, the report shows the same hardships that befall California\u2019s more rural communities are present in urban areas as well. The report calls on decision makers to account for and address these inequities in our drought responses.”<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Safe Water in Schools:<\/span>\u00a0<\/b>\u201cCalifornians should not have to wonder if the water coming out of their faucets at home or their children\u2019s school playground is suitable for drinking,\u201d said Wieckowski, chair of the Senate Environmental Quality Committee. \u201cAll Californians have a right to safe, clean drinking water and this bill will enable us to prevent unsustainable small public water districts from being established in the first place.<\/a>“<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
